Up until the 1970’s considered to be the most common and dangerous. However, with the inception of A.I.D.S or H.I.V. Virus – they have been overtaken in notoriety. Primarily to be found within the homosexual community – this deadly virus soon spread to heterosexual couples as well.

Notorious victims of AIDS included the manly Rock Hudson – for years idolised by women – but secretly a homosexual – with the truth coming to light only once he became the first high profile individual to succumb to this deadly virus – HIV / AIDS. Rock Hudson’s revelation shocked and rocked show business – as this actor was still active and on top form. It was a disease that shocked the world into using more protective contraception such as the humble condom – referred to as a Rubber Johnny, amongst many other nick names. This new disease shocked the world into using the condom, or better still, limit the number of sexual partners one has sexual intercourse with. Monogamy became the new ‘cool’ with many prominent people advocating the practice of Safe Sex – in order to minimize the risk of contracting AIDS. Women started insisting in their casual sex partners to use a condom – or else forgo sexual intercourse altogether. Which left men with little choice but to comply or say goodbye! In the process, as more and more couples practiced safe sex, fewer and fewer symptoms were reported for other sexually transmitted diseases. So the outcome was positive.

The threat of an incurable disease frightened many couples to either limit of totally eliminate extra marital and casual sex. Prostitutes also firmly insist on their clients using a condom, as indeed they did prior to the inception and proliferation of AIDS/HIV. There are other forms of sexually transmitted diseases but the objective of this article is not to list them all, nevertheless – the three most common are the ones discussed above. Much literature has been written and published about the subject matter. What was once taboo, is now taught during biology lessons in secondary/middle school. Youngsters are much more educated in this subject and are more likely to protect themselves during casual sex. All sexually transmitted diseases are dangerous and to be avoided and protected against. One would do well to heed the warnings! As they could actually save your life.
